Connector NZ Music News Spring 2012

Check out what Riqi Harawira, Jolyon Petch, Sam Hill, Franko Heke and The Girls from OZ have been up too,
and with who in 2012…

It has been a full on and studio focused year for Riqi Harawira with his first release Gutter Black 2012 Feat Sir T

gaining momentum and support from Radio around the nation, with a massive shout out of thanks to all who added it to their playlists!  Since its release in May, Riqi has been a regular face on Maori Television as they fully support the Riqified version and video, and he has been a special guest performer on both HAA and the wickedly popular Homai Te Paki Paki. You can in fact  tune in this Thursday September 13th to see him interviewed on HAA with Rudi.
Gutter Black holds a very personal connection for Riqi, and his message is strong and clear, anyone one with courage and faith can rise from the gutter to follow their dreams! To champion this message he joind Y for Youth as an ambassador along with Amanda Billing, Tiki Taane and Jay Bulletproof, a charity Riqi is a passionate campaigner for as they create sustainable funding to help, support, inspire and mentor the youth of today . He has proudly been one of the many talented artists performing at their fundraising events, and will be again Wednesday 19th September for The Third Supper along with The North Shore Youth Orchestra.

Also on the gig front he has supported renowned kiwi band ‘Coast’ at their album launch, performed as special guest for the Blue Friday Boys Breakfast raising awareness for prostate cancer with the wonderful Sir Peter Charles Leitch AKA The Mad Butcher, Simon Ponga and Shane Cortese. Latest news is Riqi will be performing  live at the V8 Supertourers concert on October 27th with headliners The Feelers, Jordan Luck Band,  Peter Urlich and where he, Jolyon Petch and Sam Hill will drop a dancefloor BomB, LIVE for the first time for the massive crowds. No stranger to producing dance music as Riqi was the founder of ‘Trureal’ who recieved awesome reviews in the USA, and previous to that he was lead guitarist for legendary band ‘Dead Flowers’. This new collaboration will definitely see the fusion of his House and Rock backgrounds come together with an expolosive track.

A true performer for the people he can be heard weekly at  WTFunk Fridays Cosh Bar on Ponsonby Road, Auckland, joined by Kelly Kahukiwa and special guests including the incredible Petra Rijnbeek and Riqi’s talented sister Keri Hadfield has also been known to bring the house down. It’s a musical family affair with Riqi and friends laying down their Funk, Pop, Rock, Reggae styles, creating and celebrating the good vibes!

Coming soon to NZ airwaves and beyond are orginals Greenstone and Gold, a heartfelt song for ‘Ourtearoha’, and “Oxygen’ a classic reggae love song for the hot summer nights we hope to have this year..weather and romance permitting! Enjoy the above acoustic versions, that’s the magic beauty of raw kiwi styles 😉
